During the development of systems relating to safety in particular, a lot of attention has to be given to verification and validation since standards such as IEC 61508 contain requirements for each phase development process. The review process is therefore as much part of this as the validation of the development tools, checking for compliance with the coding guidelines, verification of the test cover, failure tests or the environmental tests for the hardware. The development must conclude with a verification that the safety requirements have been complied with. The cost of testing and validation is therefore significantly higher for these projects than for projects without safety requirements. The presentation will provide an overview of

On September 10th, 2009, the Automation trade group will be sending out an invitation for "OPC goes Embedded". OPC is already used as a PC-based solution in numerous projects in automation technology. However, what are the pros and cons of placing the server directly on the target hardware, i.e. of an "Embedded system"? The implementation of a Data Access and Alarm & Event Server under VxWorks will be addressed. What are the problems associated with using DCOM on an EOS? What can be expected from OPC UA?
