History in the Making

Embedded Linux in real time

Unfortunately, the experience gained in the last few years has shown us that in many development projects, new controllers, different technologies, new development tools, modified operating systems, etc. have influenced the constraints of products to the extent that they do not even reach the level of maturity required for a stable product. Software architecture for embedded controllers. Many times, an insufficiently operative solution is replaced by a more “modern”, yet poorer solution. The development time for a new product generation takes longer than the technological change. Continuous improvement of the products ceases. What’s the answer? To create abstraction levels that maintain the stability of the underlying functionality at a particular level for the level above, despite technological transformation!

To this end, a three-layer architecture has proven successful in recent projects

- Linux as vendor-neutral

- operating system

- SmartPLC as IEC 61131-3

- run-time system

- SWAC Lintouch as man-to-machine interface

The requirements placed on functionality at these levels and the peculiarities during implementation are explained in detail below.
