Oldtimers in the development of Life Science Instruments and Medical Devices welcome infoteam’s new product line SiLA „Standardization in Lab Automation” as one of the highlights exhibited at the largest showcase for analytical instruments. Strongly supported by major pharmaceutical industries, this upcoming standard will extend the lifetime of expensive equipment in supporting easy upgrade and replacement of components without jeopardizing the software architecture of the Process Management System.
Companies who invented a new protocol or an innovative analytical method want to commercialize their ideas as a device which implements this new technology. However their unique device needs to fit into standard lab facilities and to cooperate with robotic sample processors, liquid dispensers, hotels, readers and whtever is needed for a HTS high throughput sequencing lab.
In an exclusive interview with our TV team, Volker Majeswki - Key Account Manager Life Science at infoteam Software - stated “Our readymade SiLA library enables those companies to plug their devices into standardized labs easily. Their customers are able to migrate their existing facilities into leading edge installations keeping their high investments.”
The SiLA library is an add-on to the biOS workbench and runtime infoteam offers to instrument makers as a software component off the shelf to support real-time data acquisition and actuator control as well as motion control and CAN-bus support for complex robots. The unique graphical engineering tools offer an easy way to configure the applications on the instrument without the necessity to change the firmware. Hence changes in protocol or sequence will not stipulate a recertification of the device. In fact validation is only necessary for the application layer reducing the burden for CE mark dramatically.
Not only European manufacturers of medical devices took notice. Zhijun Ye – sales representative of infoteams’s Beijing office – reports “New startup companies in China are keen to leverage on high tech software which gives them access to the worldwide market with competitive products. Chinese production technology and infoteam software provide affordable products to the pharmaceutical industry.”
The biOS runtime is based on Linux and supports a wide range of microcontrollers for embedded systems usually found in sophisticated instruments. It features:
This All-In-One software is the ideal starter package for the instrument and device developer. Its proven software architecture is currently in use by more than 50 manufacturers worldwide.
