Efficient planning and creation of safety-related functions
ToolWith the Cause & Effect (C&E) Editor, infoteam offers a tool which significantly simplifies the development and approval of safety functions since the C&E charts are used for both the specification and the safety case. Generating PLC programs from the C&E charts eliminates the need for manual procedures when implementing the specification in the program and analysing the program for safety case. The C&E Editor is designed for integration into the programming system of the different controll manufacturers based on its clear interfaces. It features simple syntax and semantics which are free of any hidden logic. |
UseManually created C&E charts have been in use in process engineering for many years. There has been an increasing demand for tool support by companies in the oil and gas industry and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The general objective is the reduction of engineering costs while improving quality. The C&E Editor integrated in programming systems does not replace the IEC 61131-3 programming languages. It is an extension for developing safety functions. In this context C&E charts are especially suitable for Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD). |

MethodologyA C&E chart is a table of logical relationships between causes and effects. The purpose of this notation is to provide a clear and simple cause-effect relationship. By defining the processing time, a PLC program can be generated from the charts. |
IntegrationThe infoteam C&E Editor is an .NET application. It can be integrated into any Microsoft-based IEC 61131-3 programming system. C&E charts will be translated into POUs. Suitable programming languages of the POU are ST or FBD. Hence the main adaption work is the development of a post processor for the translation of the C&E chart into the programming language. |
